ARP 2600M Synthesizer Announced

ARP 2600M Synthesizer Announced

The ARP 2600 is arguably the most iconic and recognizable synthesizer of all time. Having been used in countless records, film scores, TV shows and game soundtracks since its appearance from the 70’s through to today, the ARP 2600’s sound remains an essential part of the music world.

The new ARP 2600 M delivers the sound admired around the world, in a more compact and portable format and including added features that make it the ideal incarnation of this historic synth.

When the ARP 2600 FS was announced in January 2020, it quickly became a phenomenal success with musicians all over the world recognizing the faithfulness to the original ARP 2600.

The ARP 2600 M is around 60% the original size, making it lighter, more portable and easier to place and use in a studio. It integrates the same analog circuitry and components as the ARP 2600 FS, thus faithfully reproducing the characteristic ARP sound.

The ARP 2600 M is built in Japan with the same care and extraordinary quality standard as the ARP 2600 FS, and uses the same analog components to accurately reproduce the sound and feel of the original.
The Spring Reverb has been re-engineered and adapted to the new size body to the same lush effect.

The ARP 2600 M comes with a dedicated Carry Case that not only protects your instrument, but also makes it easier to transport, thanks to its custom casters with special anti-shock damping technology.
There is also enough space to carry other gear together, like your favourite volca, SQ-64 or MIDI controller!

It is not by chance that the ARP 2600 has been so extremely popular to this day.
More than a synthesizer, the ARP 2600 M is a complete sound design studio. Even today, the ARP 2600 stands as a bridge between the individual elements of modular synthesis and the immediacy of a production / performance instrument. Included are an ample supply of oscillators, envelopes, a filter and amplifier – all of the building blocks of analog synthesis. But the ARP 2600 M goes even further, with a spring reverb tank and even a pair of built-in monitor speakers. Also present is much of the versatility of a vintage modular system, including a ring modulation, lag and voltage processors, an envelope follower, audio preamp, a clock-able switch, noise source, a sample-and-hold module, signal inverters, an auxiliary mixer, and even a set of parallel-wired/multi jacks.

The new ARP 2600 M is not only faithful to the original, it also includes an array of added features that will make it even easier to use:

  • Plug and play: Connect any class compliant MIDI controller such as a KORG microKeys, nanokeys or SQ-64 to one of the ARP 2600 M’s USB ports (USB-A and USB-B) and automatically get full control of your instrument!
  • Resized: The new size makes it easier to visualize your patch and also allows you to use shorter patch cables
  • Filter Choice: Two types of filters from two versions of the original ARP 2600(4012 type, 4072 type)
  • More MIDI: 5-Pin DIN plug MIDI IN added
  • Modern Control: Pitch-bend, Modulation, Portamento ON/OFF and Portamento ON/OFF can be controlled through MIDI CC messages (USB/DIN MIDI)
  • Normalized voltage: The threshold of the trigger signal required to activate the ADSR through the S/H GATE JACK has been reduced from 10V to 5V, making it much easier to use in combination with other gear such as volcas or Eurorack modules
  • Tweaked Parameters: Improved Attack and Release time ratios
  • Easy Connections: L/R Stereo Output Jack (instead of XLR)
  • Convenient Features: Speakers turn automatically off when using headphones
    Improved, smoother sliders
  • Limited Edition Version
Celebrating the rebirth of this iconic synth, the first units will come with a special colour road case, as well as a KORG microKEY2-37 so you can start playing right away!
  • Free bundle of music software
The ARP 2600 FS comes with a diverse variety of music software from Izotope including “Ozone Elements” which lets you not only create songs but also master them using AI, “Skoove” which will help you improve your keyboard playing skills, “Reason Lite” DAW software, as well as software synths from KORG and other brands.

Yamaha Announce Two New Additions To The YC Series

Yamaha Announce Two New Additions To The YC Series

Following the success and critical acclaim of the YC61 as well as numerous inquiries from musicians around the world, Yamaha expands the YC range by two new models: YC88 and YC73. The YC88 features an 88-key Natural Wood Graded Hammer action keyboard for a grand piano inspired playing style. The YC73 uses Balanced Hammer Standard action to replicate the feel of classic electric pianos. Both new models offer a large variety of sounds from organs to synthesizers by integrating three sound engines: VCM, FM and AWM2. Combined with sound effects and layering options, the sonic versatility of the new instruments is impressive. Intuitive direct controls and connectivity options for second manuals, switches and pedals add to the comprehensive flexibility. Constant updates will expand on this basis even further.

Yamaha YC-73

YC88 for pianists, YC73 for keyboardists

With YC88 and YC73, Yamaha expands the YC series not just in size, but also in scope. While the inaugural model YC61 was clearly aimed at organ players who enjoyed some sonic flexibility, YC88 and YC73 retain the drawbar controllers but couple them with different types of key action. The YC88 features a Natural Wood Graded Hammer action keyboard (NW-GH3), imparting a sense of grand piano sophistication to the instrument. The YC73 employs Balanced Hammer Standard action, positioning it closer to electric pianos and hence addressing demanding keyboardists first and foremost. With this line-up, the YC family offers the perfect model for every taste and preference.

Versatile sound excellence: organs, pianos, synthesizers

While the distinctive drawbar controllers and the waterfall keyboard of the original Yamaha YC61 may lead to the conclusion that YC is a series of organs, the instruments go far beyond this category. Just like the YC61, the new YC88 and YC73 do provide a large number of organ sounds, but they also feature grand and upright pianos and synthesizer voices. The key to their versatility lies in the YC models’ multiple sound engines: Yamaha combines the proprietary Virtual Circuitry Modeling (VCM) technology with FM synthesis and AWM2 sampling to create a plethora of authentic, captivating and utterly creative sounds for all occasions.

Yamaha YC-88

Sound shaping and special effects

Each of the numerous voices provided by Yamaha YC88 and YC73 can be edited and altered in a number of ways. First, there are the adjustments that can be made in the tone generator section itself, influencing the basic sound as created by the respective engine. Secondly, there are sound shaping options like pre drive for the organ section as well as various insert effects, reverb and a master equaliser for all sections. Finally, different voices can also be layered to achieve even more depth.

Direct access and intuitive controls

When designing the YC series surface, Yamaha put particular emphasis on fast and intuitive controls. Every important parameter is realized in the form of a button, switch, or knob on the panel of the YC88 and YC73. This immediate direct access eliminates the need to navigate through complex menus and sub menus or switch to an edit mode in order to make adjustments to the sound setup. The digital display will still provide precise information on the values set by the hardware knobs, introducing digital accuracy into what feels like analogue controls.

Two manuals and straight recording: comprehensive connectivity

While the Yamaha YC88 and YC73 can be switched and split to control two different manuals of a chosen instrument, some players and particularly organists might prefer to add a second manual for immediate and simultaneous access. A dual-manual setup can be easily realized by connecting a second keyboard via MIDI and configuring it to control either the upper or lower manual as desired. Further connectors enable the use of foot switches and foot controllers to assign parameters like sustain, volume, filter frequency and more. An integrated audio and MIDI interface allows for direct recording with the included Steinberg Cubase AI or other music production software.

Staying up to date: YC expandability

While the Yamaha YC88 and YC73 include everything discerning organists and keyboardists may need, modern times require flexibility and adaptability. For this reason, Yamaha has equipped the YC series with the new update system introduced with the CP series. Regular updates provide additional features, sounds and optimisations. This open, updatable structure allows for a long product lifespan – the YC88 and YC73 adapt to new requirements.

Prices and availability

Yamaha YC88 and YC73 will be available from 15th January 2021.

The SRP (incl. VAT) are £3134.00 for the YC88 and £2463.60 for the YC73.

IK Multimedia announces UNO Synth Pro and UNO Synth Pro Desktop

IK Multimedia announces UNO Synth Pro and UNO Synth Pro Desktop

IK Multimedia has announced the release of the UNO Synth Pro and UNO Synth Pro Desktop.

Developed in collaboration with Italian boutique synth-maker Soundmachines, both these new analog synthesizers take the groundbreaking UNO Synth monophonic synth and expand it in nearly every section: more oscillators, more filters, more sequencer memory, more effects, more presets, more connections and more programmability. UNO Synth Pro puts this amazing new sound engine in a rugged metal chassis with a 37-key synth-action Fatar keybed, while UNO Synth Pro Desktop provides a more portable form factor to travel anywhere.

The UNO Synth Pro’s unique dual-filter, 3-oscillator paraphonic design lets it create nearly any synth sound imaginable, and with 256 presets, a new 64-step sequencer and expanded CV/Gate and audio connections, users will quickly find it’s the ideal creation station for any outboard rig.

Huge, real analog sound
Three analog oscillators offer continuously variable waveshape, including pulse-width modulation. Oscillators can be hard-synced for more harmonically-complex tones, and oscillator FM (frequency modulation) lets users shape everything from bell-like sounds to screaming industrial tones. UNO Synth Pro even includes ring modulation for wobbly, sci-fi sound, and a white noise generator for a wide range of percussive sounds and epic rises.

Dual-filter design with 24 available modes
In addition to the original UNO Synth’s 2-pole OTA multimode filter, UNO Synth Pro adds a new SSI 2/4-pole LP filter with self-oscillation. The dual filters can be used in series or parallel, with invertible phase, for a total of 24 possible filter modes. This unique design offers nearly limitless tonal possibilities, from recreating classic vintage sounds or forging completely new, experimental sounds.

Massive sonic flexibility
UNO Synth Pro offers two full ADSR envelopes, one dedicated to the filter and the other to amplitude, with both available as sources to modulate everything from oscillator pitch and waveshape to LFO speed or even other envelope stages. Two LFOs (low-frequency oscillators) can create classic synth vibrato, wah and tremolo as well as do more complex modulations including audio range FM.

A 16-slot modulation matrix makes routing all these a breeze. Users can quickly and easily design even the most sophisticated modulation scheme, with both internal and external sources, including MIDI controllers.

Deep onboard effects
UNO Synth Pro offers four effect blocks: an analog overdrive circuit from the original UNO Synth, plus three new, custom-designed digital effects: modulation, delay and reverb. External signals can also be routed through these effects, with pre-effects filtering for added flexibility.

Improved playability
UNO Synth Pro offers a premium 37-key synth action keybed made in Italy by Fatar, while UNO Synth Pro Desktop provides an enhanced version of the original’s long-lasting capacitance-sensing keys along with pitch and mod strips for enhanced expression. Both units add firm-touch rubber pads for the control sections, plus LED-backlit indicators and an LED display for key information, making it easier than ever to use live on stage or in deep programming sessions in the studio.

Powerful presets, sequencer and arpeggiator
UNO Synth Pro offers 256 user-editable presets, each capturing the full state of the sound engine from oscillators to effects. An onboard 64-step sequencer offers both step and real-time recording, with automation of over 80 parameters, letting users create incredibly intricate and evolving soundscapes, and even write CV and gate automation.

And a 10-mode arpeggiator makes it easy to create intricate patterns and runs, while a new “chord mode” takes advantage of UNO Synth Pro’s paraphonic design, opening the door to triads and chord work.

Advanced connectivity
UNO Synth Pro offers two noiseless, balanced stereo outputs as well as headphone out, for superior audio quality in any situation. USB and 5-pin DIN MIDI In and Out make it easy to integrate with other synths, Mac/PC and mobile devices, and its assignable CV/Gate connections lets UNO Synth Pro interact effortlessly with a Eurorack or other modular system.

And now, an audio input allows access to the filter and FX section for external signals, in addition to the original pass-through for daisy-chaining multiple units together without using a mixer.

Options, pricing and availability
UNO Synth Pro and UNO Synth Pro Desktop will be arriving in Q1 2021 and are currently available for pre-order from the IK Multimedia online store and from IK authorized dealers worldwide for $/€649.99* and $/€399.99 respectively.

*All pricing excluding taxes
